Riley County Police have released the name of both the suspect and the victim in the Wednesday afternoon shooting in the vicinity of a gas station on Manhattan’s North side.

18-year old Daeshawn Bryant of 1358 Flint Hills Place in Manhattan, was arrested for aggravated battery with a firearm and was confined on a $50,000 bond. This arrest stemmed from a shooting at the Hop-N-Skip convenience store at 2233 Tuttle Creek Blvd. that was reported to the RCPD at 1:04 p.m. on May 7, 2014, via a non-emergency line. Prior to officers’ arrival, the victim, 23-year old Dareen Starks, of 509 N. 9th Street in Manhattan, was taken by private vehicle to Mercy Regional Health Center with a single gunshot wound to the stomach, and he was later transported by air ambulance to another medical facility. The investigation into this incident continues, and due to its active nature, no further information is being released at this time. Riley County Police report that the victim and the suspect were acquainted with each other, and that this was not a random act of violence.
