While final numbers won’t be in for a while, tens of thousands of people descended on Wamego Friday evening for the city’s annual Fireworks show which has become widely recognized as the biggest and best in the state of Kansas. A music soundtrack accompanied the fireworks and was simulcast on KMAN’s sister station Hot Country B 104.7.
There was also a parade earlier Friday evening down Lincoln Street which included several dignitaries such as First District Congressional candidate Jim Sherow and former K-State and current Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson. A carnival was also held in Wamego City Park featuring many rides and attractions. Since the holiday fell on a Friday this year, the carnival will continue through Saturday.
