Tonganoxie football coach resigns after suspension

TONGANOXIE, Kan. (AP)   Tonganoxie High football coach Mark Elston has resigned after being suspended after he disciplined one of his players.  Elston resigned Wednesday as he started his 12th year at the northeast Kansas school.  The Lawrence Journal-World reports that Elston was suspended Monday after he reportedly picked up a player and reprimanded him for delivering a blindside hit on a player who was not supposed to be touched.  Elston says he had warned sophomore linebacker Jordan Boudreaux several times about the tackles he was delivering and reprimanded him to protect his other players.  The incident was reported to the high school by an observer.  Defensive coordinator Matt Bond has been named interim head coach.  Tonganoxie opens its season Friday.
