The Manhattan High girls basketball team saw their great season come to a close at 18-5 after a 39-26 loss to Shawnee Mission NW in the quarterfinals of the 6A State Tournament in Wichita.
Manhattan held an early 3-2 lead, the Cougars went on a 15-0 run which helped SM NW take a 17-5 lead after the first quarter. The Tribe trailed 20-11 at the half. They would get within five points at 20-15 midway through the third quarter but Manhattan was unable to get any closer.
The Indians shot 22.7% from the field in the game, including 0-14 from three point range. Gigi McAtee led MHS with seven points, Amara Ehie and Madison Mittie each finished with six points.
SM NW cleaned up on the glass, dominating in rebounding 38-23 over the Indians.
The six seniors (Amara Ehie, Molly Fiser, Savannah Roberts, Savannah Thaemert, Caroline Ballard, Kylie James) leave as the best group to go through the girls basketball program. 75 wins, 3 league titles and three state tournament appearances.
