A five-run sixth inning gave UC Davis the lead for good after trailing K-State by as many as three runs, and the Aggies rallied past the Cats 10-5 on Saturday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field in Moraga, CA. UC Davis hit for the cycle in their breakout inning to lead 9-5, with a Spencer Henderson triple knocking in the first run, then a Tino Lipson RBI double, followed by a Spencer Henderson run-scoring single, and a two-run homer by Cameron Olson finished the inning. Nick Lynch added his second homer of the day to complete the scoring in the bottom of the 8th.
K-State jumped out to a 2-0 edge in the top of the first as Carter Yagi started a one-out rally with a walk followed consecutive RBI base hits, a double by Shane Conlon and a single by Austin Fisher. Conlon would score a run in the third inning on a UC Davis error to push the lead to 3-0.
UC Davis struck back for the first time in the game during the bottom of the third with a Patterson RBI double, and then he later scored on a fielders’ choice to pull the Aggies within 3-2. R.J. Santigate singled home a run for K-State in the top of the 5th to make it 4-2. UC Davis tied the game at 4 in the bottom half with a Seth Batty sacrifice fly and Lynch’s first homer. A sacrifice fly from Conlon gave the Cats their final lead of 5-4 in the top of the 6th.
Fisher and Santigate each had three hits for K-State (1-6), while Conlon had two hits and a team-leading two RBI. Olson topped UC Davis (3-4) with three hits and three RBIs.
Jordan Witcig pitched the first three innings for the Cats, giving up two runs, one earned on four hits and four walks. Colton Kalmus (0-1) started the sixth inning on the mound, and lasted just one third of an inning, surrendering three runs to take the loss. Orlando Razo (1-0) relieved Aggie starter Evan Wolf, and pitched three and two thirds innings of scoreless, three-hit ball for the victory.
