Currently the host of "KMAN's Morning News", Troy is a 30 year veteran of radio, nearly 20 in northern Colorado, where he served as the "Voice of the UNC Bears" while serving as the news and sports director for one of the oldest AM stations in the country. No stranger to Manhattan nor Kansas, Troy is an alum of K-State in broadcast journalism and grew up near Circleville. He began his broadcast career with KSDB-FM on campus while working part time at another radio station in town. He's married to the former Monica Haugsness of Seneca, who has patiently put up with his schedule for more than 25 years.

The annual Wamego Invitational cross country meet Saturday saw the host boys finish fourth in the 4A race while Rock Creek placed 10th as a squad in a race won by Southeast of Saline. The Wamego girls finished seventh on the day, as Christ Prep of Lenexa claimed the crown in that race. The Smoky Valley boys and Norton girls were the 3-2-1A team winners with Riley County’s boys placing eighth, the girls fifth. Individually, Rock Creek’s Lucia Nippert finished 10th to place the Mustangs in the Girls 4A race and Parker Peyton of Wamego was the fourth place finisher…

Kansas State would jump out to an early lead on Troy Saturday afternoon at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, but it would belie the way the rest of the day would. Eventually, K-State’s offense would have the ball enough to again find the flow and finish a 42-13 win a flourish that didn’t reflect how the game was played. The Chiefs’ Travis Kelce was held out of Wednesday’s final workout and listed as questionable for Thursday night’s season opener against Detroit, one day after the All-Pro tight end hyperextended his knee in practice. Kelce was the only player to carry an injury designation for the Super Bowl champions, who will be raising their latest banner before the first game of the NFL season. That means that wide receiver Kadarius Toney and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, both of whom have dealt with knee injuries throughout training camp, are expected to be in the lineup. The MHS girls won the 14-team Washburn Rural/Great Plains Classic on Tuesday at Wamego Country Club. MHS scored a team total of 332, beating Washburn Rural by 3 strokes and Olathe NW by 17. Sophomore Lily Bahr placed 4th, shooting 80. Sophomore Kat Ball shot 82 and tied for 7th. Freshman Maddie Myers placed 9th, shooting 83.

Kansas State’s offense scored touchdowns on seven of its first eight possessions and its defense held SEMO to under a yard rushing per attempt in the opening 30 minutes as the Wildcats cruised to a 45-0 win to open the 2023 season. Quarterback Will Howard threw for 297 yards, completing 18 of 26 attempts, Junction City’s D.J. Giddens ran for 128 on 15 carries and Ben Sinnott and R.J. Big man Patrick Ngongba has laid out a calendar for a series of upcoming campus visits as he tries to determine where to further his basketball career starting next fall. The 6-foot-10, 235-pound senior out of Fairfax, VA, Paul VI Catholic will visit four of the schools on his list of those under consideration, including making a stop in Manhattan to visit K-State October 27th. Ngongba will visit Michigan September 8th, Kentucky on September 29th and Duke on October 20th before making his second campus visit to K-State. A day after he was cut from the Kansas City Chiefs roster, former K-State corner Ekow Boye-Dowe agreed to terms and will be assigned to the team’s practice squad for the coming season. Boye-Dowe finished the pre-season with seven solo tackles and had been strong in coverage throughout.

The countdown to the season opener for K-State football is at eight days with an expection that one of the top recruiting classes in program history could provide depth this season. Chris Klieman says development of depth continues, though, ahead of the game week prep starting in earnest. K-State’s pre-season practices continue with 25 days until kickoff but one major piece is being held out for the time being. Coach Chris Klieman says offensive lineman Christian Duffie has been sidelined with an injury. Duffie has started 35 consecutive dating back to the 2020 season, which is the longest current streak on the team. He started all 14 games at right tackle in his junior campaign last fall.
