Big 12 Releases Statement on KU/ISU Officiating

The Big 12 conference has released a statement in response to fan outcry about the officiating in Monday night’s Kansas/Iowa State game at Hilton Coliseum, and the league’s subsequent review of two officials.  A pair of calls stood out at the end of regulation of the Jayhawks 108-96 overtime win.  One was a foul whistled on KU forward Kevin Young that appeared to be committed by Jeff Withey, which would’ve been his 5th foul.  The other was a no-call was less than 10 seconds left when KU’s Elijah Johnson collided with Iowa State’s Georges Niang going to the basket.

The Big 12 said this will be their only comment on the matter:

The Big 12 Conference acknowledges that officiating errors were made at the end of regulation during last night’s Kansas at Iowa State men’s basketball game. The plays have been reviewed and appropriate measures will be taken by the Coordinator of Men’s Basketball Officials to adjust the number of future assignments for the two officials involved in conjunction with Conference policies.”

With the win over Iowa State, KU remains tied with K-State atop the Big 12 conference standings at 12-3.
