The Riley County Commission continued making tweaks to the 2013 budget during a Thursday’s work session.
The commission finalized its appropriation to the Health Department, which will receive $639,331 in the upcoming fiscal year.
“This amount ($639,331) is required as a local match to KDHE’s state formula funding,” budget and finance officer Johnette Shepek said.
That was the only adjustment that needed to be made to the county’s projected expenses; however, modifications were made to the county’s unencumbered cash balance.
“One of the things we didn’t take into account (last week) was the commission’s approval for the expenditure of HVAC system for RCPD,” Shepek said.
That will cost the county roughly $400,000, according to the public works department. Shepek deducted an additional $50,000 from the beginning cash balance due to expected increases to inmate medical expenses.
All of the adjustments produced a mill levy rate of 34.227, a slight reduction when compared to the 2012 rate; however, more changes are expected in the coming weeks.
