A Randolph teenager died and two other teens were injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 2:30 Saturday morning near Leonardville. 17-year old Trevor Redding of Randolph, a senior at Blue Valley High School died in the accident. The other teens involved have been identified as 19-year old Garrett Olson of Leonardville and 17-year old Lane Howe of Riley. Both were transported to Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, their conditions were not available.
According to the crash report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Olson was driving a 1990 Honda Accord Eastbound on LK & W Road two miles northeast of Leonardville when the vehicle went into a skid , entered a ditch and struck a rock wall. The vehicle then overturned ejecting Redding who was a passenger in the back seat. Redding was pronounced dead at the scene.
USD 384 Blue Valley-Randolph Superintendent Brady Burton told KMAN News Director Cathy Dawes Saturday that counselors will be made available at the school on Monday for all students. Burton has also contacted other area school superintendents for assistance with the counseling.
There was no information as to whether any citations were issued in connection with the accident.
