A hearing on a motion to retry a man who was convicted in August of rape, aggravated indecent liberties, and criminal sodomy of a child was changed to a closed proceeding on Monday afternoon. Riley County District Court Judge David Stutzman informed KMAN he was closing the proceedings at 4 pm. Judge Stutzman denied the motion for retrial brought about by the defense attorney’s belief that there were inconsistencies with victim’s testimony which warranted the motion.
John Goodpasture Jr., 43, is convicted on multiple sex offenses committed against two female children ages 10 and 13. Goodpasture’s sentencing hearing is now set for the 7th of November. The sentences for the convictions could be 25 years to life in prison.
