Earlier this offseason, K-State men’s basketball coach Bruce Weber told KMAN of his plans to bring a “Big 5” opponent to Bramlage Coliseum during the 2014-15 season. The Cats’ opponent is now official as Georgia will come to Manhattan on December 31st with a return trip to Athens on December 22nd, 2015. It’s the 6th straight year K-State will face an SEC opponent, and the matchup with the Bulldogs will be in addition to the Big 12/SEC Challenge. That game will be on the road, and according to Weber will not be at Ole Miss, who played at Bramlage last season.
The Cats have only previously faced Georgia once, and it came in the first round of the 1987 NCAA Tournament, as K-State beat the Bulldogs 82-79 in Salt Lake City, UT. Georgia is coached by former Wildcat assistant and Garden City native Mark Fox, who coached under Tom Asbury from 1994-2000.
K-State will release the remainder of its schedule in the coming months, but has already indicated they will play a game at the Sprint Center in Kansas City against a yet-to-be named opponent, and will participate in the Maui Invitational.
