K-State Shuts Down TCU in Ft. Worth

Rodney McGruder scored 21 points and #16 K-State overcame a slow start to claim the first Big 12 meeting with TCU, 67-54 in Fort Worth on Tuesday night. The Horned Frogs jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the game’s first three minutes, but the Cats righted the ship and closed out the half by outscoring TCU 36-17. K-State would push the lead to as many as 25 points in the 2nd half at 67-42 with 6:19 to play, before the Frogs scored the final 12 points of the game.

K-State (14-2, 3-0) won their seventh straight game as they shot 48 percent from the field. The Wildcat bench came up big on both ends, scoring 28 points, led by eight apiece from Martavious Irving and Jordan Henriquez. Adrick McKinney had 18 points and nine rebounds for TCU (9-8, 0-4).  McKinney made six of eight attempts from the field, but the rest of the Horned Frogs converted on just 12 of 40 tries.

Up next for K-State is a showdown between teams with undefeated records in the Big 12 as Oklahoma comes to town on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff will be at 3:00pm at Bramlage Coliseum, and Powercat Gameday begins at 1:00 on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN from Kite’s Grille & Bar in Aggieville. John Kurtz will be joined by Ken Corbitt of the Topeka Capital-Journal.
