K-State Takes Series From Iowa

Jared King collected four hits and drove in a pair of runs and Blake McFadden won for the fourth time in five decisions as Kansas State knocked off Iowa 5-3 Sunday afternoon in Iowa City to take two out of three games in their non-conference weekend series with the Hawkeyes.

The Cats outhit the Hawkeyes 14-5 as they recorded their second straight victory after Friday’s series-opening loss and their eighth win in their last nine games. McFadden gave up three runs on four hits in his six innings of work while registering five strikeouts and Jared Matthys and Tanner Witt provided scoreless relief for the final three innings out of the bullpen. Witt finished off the game and picked up his fifth save of the season.

Kansas State (26-11) continues its road trip with a visit to Wichita State on Tuesday for the second meeting in eight days with the Shockers. Last Tuesday, the Bat Cats rallied from a five-run eighth inning deficit and recorded a 7-6 walkoff victory in Manhattan. First pitch on Tuesday night is set for 6:30 p.m.
