K-State will play a total of 12 matches in 2013 against eight different teams who went to the NCAA tournament last season. But the highlight of this fall’s schedule might be an opportunity for Wildcats to see international competition. Just before Big 12 play begins, K-State will host Italy’s under-23 national team on Tuesday, September 24th at Ahearn Fieldhouse. The Italians will be on their way to the under-23 world championships in Mexico and will face the Cats as a warmup.
K-State made their 14th NCAA tourney appearance last season, and will face four other Big 12 teams who went dancing as well with defending national champion Texas, plus Iowa State, Kansas, and Oklahoma. The Cats will face four non-conference opponents who played in the postseason as Tulsa will come to Manhattan, they’ll see Cal at their tournament along with Santa Clara in Berkeley, and also will play Arkansas at their tourney in Fayetteville.
The Cats will play a total of 13 home matches at Ahearn Fieldhouse this season, including the K-State Invitational on September 6th and 7th when Southeast Missouri State, Southern Illinois, and Siena come to town.
