Former Kansas State head volleyball coach Jim McLaughlin has been selected to the 2021 Hall of Fame class by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
McLaughlin spent four seasons at the helm of the Wildcats (1997-2000) and amassed a record of 82-43 (.656), taking the Wildcats to four straight NCAA Tournaments. During his final season in Manhattan, he led K-State to a second-place finish in the Big 12, a berth in the regional final of the 2000 NCAA Tournament and a No. 16 national ranking.
McLaughlin was named the head coach at Washington prior to the 2001 season and tabbed then-assistant Suzie Fritz as the interim head coach of the Cats.
McLaughlin, who retired in 2017, holds the distinction of being the only Division I head coach to win a national title as both a men’s and women’s head coach, leading the Southern California men to a championship in his first season in 1990 before earning the crown with the Washington women in 2005.
Across his 28 seasons as a head coach, he put together a record of 632-253 (.714).
McLaughlin will be inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame on December 16 at the AVCA Convention in Columbus, Ohio.
