Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber announced the addition of junior transfer Patrick Muldoon (Basehor, Kan./Basehor-Linwood/Eastern Illinois) as a walk-on on Thursday.
According to a release from K-State Athletics, he’s a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward from Basehor, Kansas, Muldoon joins the Wildcats after a two-year stint at Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Illinois, where he played for head coach Jay Spoonhour during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. He will sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA regulations and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining starting in the 2018-19 season. He is eligible to practice with the team immediately.
Muldoon played in all 29 games for Eastern Illinois with 10 starts in 2016-17, helping the Panthers to a 14-15 overall record and 6-10 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play. He averaged 5.5 points on 45.8 percent shooting (66-of-144) as a sophomore with 4.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks in 19.8 minutes per game. He ranked second on the team in blocks (15), while he was fourth in rebounding (4.3 rpg.), offensive (78) and defensive (126) rebounds and seventh in scoring (5.5 ppg.).
Muldoon scored a career-best 14 points at UT-Martin on January 18 on 7-of-13 field goals, while he posted double digits at SE Missouri State on January 21 and Austin Peay at February 16. He collected his first career double-double at Austin Peay, scoring 13 points on 6-of-11 field goals with a season-tying 10 rebounds.
In his two seasons at EIU, Muldoon saw action in 59 games with 18 starts, averaging 5.0 points on 47.5 percent shooting (124-of-261) with 3.7 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game. He averaged 4.5 points on 49.6 percent shooting (58-of-117) as a freshman in 2015-16 with 3.0 rebounds in 16.6 minutes per game.
Muldoon was a four-year letterman at Basehor-Linwood High School in Basehor, Kansas for head coach Mike McBride, where he helped the Bobcats to a combined 43-5 record his junior and senior seasons. A First Team Class 4A All-State selection as a senior, he averaged 17.1 points on 58 percent shooting with 6.8 rebounds in guiding the Bobcats to a 24-1 record and a runner-up finish at the Class 4A state tournament in 2014-15.
Muldoon will be the sixth newcomer to join K-State for the 2017-18 season, which began Monday with the start of summer workouts. He joins fellow junior Amaad Wainright (Kansas City, Mo./Trinity Valley Community College), sophomore Makol Mawien (West Valley City, Utah/New Mexico Junior College) and freshmen Mike McGuirl (Ellington, Conn./East Catholic), Nigel Shadd (Chandler, Ariz./Tri-City Christian) and Levi Stockard III (St. Louis, Mo./Vashon).
