A Kansas food group has issued a challenge to the Manhattan.
Our Local Food is asking families in town to take part in a challenge starting on August 27th and running through September 3rd. The objective? To eat four out of five meals of locally grown food. A member of Our Local Food, Elaine Moore, notes there will be a prize for those who accomplish the feat.
“This will be quite a challenge but there will be a reward if you manage to do that,” Moore said. “Submit your menu at People’s Grocery in a box. There will be a drawing for five big baskets of local produce.”
While the mission of “Our Local Food” may seem obvious, Moore feels it can’t be restated enough.
“What’s important is that our dollars stay local,” Moore said. “It’s supports the local economy, it supports the local farms, but most importantly you can taste the difference.”
Our Local Food is a program of the Kansas Rural Center, a non-profit organization that promotes the long-term health of the land and its people through research, education, and advocacy.
