Parents Alerted After Student Offered Ride Home


Parents of students in USD 383 have been made aware of an incident that took place within the last 10 days during which a female student from Bergman Elementary School was offered a ride home.

KMAN News spoke with Michele Jones USD 383 Communications Coordinator on Wednesday afternoon about the incident alleged to have occurred on January 15. Jones confirmed to KMAN that a notice went out to parents in the district for them to talk with their children about the dangers of talking to strangers or accepting rides from them. Jones said that the student was offered the ride home after getting off a bus on Everett Road by a white male described as being in his 20’s The girl whose age is unknown reportedly declined the ride and ran away from the scene, she was not harmed.

Jones added that Riley County Police were notified about the incident and RCPD was also encouarging parents to make their children aware of what precautions to take should such a situation arise.
