Accidents
Riley County police arrested a Manhattan teen Tuesday following a wild hit-and-run accident.
At approximately 8:50 p.m., Dylon Babcock, 18, smashed his 1989 Plymouth Reliant into a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 23-year old Ryan Bjurstrom of 1117 Vattier St., near the intersection of Tuttle Creek Blvd. and Kimball Ave.
Babcock, who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, fled the scene traveling westbound on Kimball Ave. on the wrong side of the road. Shortly after, Babcock turned south on to N. Manhattan Ave. and eventually ended up in a nearby subdivision.
Manhattan native Kevin Scherer, 22, witnessed the accident and followed Babcock on to N. Manhattan Ave., Keen St., Bluehills Rd., and ultimately Bluestem Terr.
After damaging property belonging to a number of homeowners, Babcock’s Reliant stalled in the front yard of 1931 Bluestem Terr. He was detained by citizens until officers arrived at the scene to make the arrest.
No one was injured during the chase.
Babcock is expected to face charges of aggravated battery, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of property damage when he is sentenced in Riley County District Court.
RCPD released Babcock Wednesday on a $4,000 bond.
