Three subdivisions may be receiving a facelift in the future. The Riley County commission passed a resolution to repave Lakewood, Driftwood and High Meadows subdivisions. Assistant county counselor Craig Cox explains the next step in the process.
“This resolution will be mailed to all of the landowners in each subdivision,” Cox said. “There will be a cover letter explaining the protest period and what needs to be done to file an official protest.”
The commission has set a public hearing for September 19th of this year to pass the sales tax resolution for the project. Landowners will have until that date to file a protest.

Capital improvement projects and county building were some of the topics discussed during Thursday’s meeting. Budget and finance officer Jonette Shepek reported on the one of the county’s major undertakings.
“Really, the only activity out of economic development for 2011 will be some of the expenses for the Konza water project,” Shepeck said. “(Public Works Director) Leon Hobson says they’re still working on getting right-of-way and easements on that project. We haven’t seen any invoices from the city on our half of the share for design costs but that could come in later this year.”
Sufficient funds are available to cover the project; however, Shepek did express concern about the timing of the expenses.
