Riley County Girls Fall at State

A very efficient offensive game for Garden Plain was too much for Riley County to overcome in a 57-35 loss in the opening game of the 3A state tournament. The Owls went 8 for 10 from beyond the arc while the Falcons knocked in just 6 of 22 three point attempts. Ali Heimerman was the catalyst for Garden Plain with 16 points and was joined in double figures by Cassidy Haukup who had 12 of her 13 points in the second half to help put the game away. The Falcons got to within 18-12 late in the second quarter, but the Owls responded with back to back three pointers and never looked back. Riley County was led in scoring by Makayla Vargo who had 13 points. Madison Vargo had 9 as well for the Falcons who finished the season at 17-6. The trip to state was the eighth in the last decade for the Riley County program.
