The Royals did something over the weekend for the first time this season against the Yankees, and that is get swept in a series. The Royals lost 11-6 on Friday night, 3-2 on Saturday night, and 4-2 Sunday afternoon. On Sunday, the Yankees were powered by Robinson Cano and Vernon Wells who both homered in the third inning. The Royals could only salvage a sacrifice fly from Alex Gordan in the first inning and an RBI ground-out from Alcides Escobar in the eighth inning.
The pitching for Kansas City was good on Sunday but again the offense is what sealed the fate for the Royals. Ervin Santana pitched into the seventh inning but was relieved by Tim Collins. Santana gave up all four Yankee runs on eight hits and striking out four batters. Hiroki Kuroda pitched solid for the Yankees pitching 7.2 innings giving up only two runs on six hits.
The Royals (18-16) will send Luis Mendoza to the mound as the Royals begin a west coast road trip starting tonight against the LA Angels. First pitch is scheduled for 9:05 pm.
