The National Weather Service on Thursday issued two weather advisories for Northeast Kansas which could be impacted by the first major winter storm of the season.
A Freezing Rain Advisory is in effect until 6:00 a.m. for Pottawatomie and Wabunsee Counties. The advisory has been cancelled for Riley and Geary Counties. More significantly a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the area from 12:00 a.m. CST Saturday until 6:00 a.m. CST on Sunday for the entire listening area as a weather system that is out in the Pacific Ocean is slated to move through the region. Precipitation on Saturday will likely be in the form of a Wintry Mix including a combination of Rain, Freezing Rain and Sleet before changing to snow Saturday night. The heaviest of the snow is expected to fall between 6 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday with predicted amounts of four to seven inches possible.
