The Geary County Sheriff’s Office released more information on a shooting that occurred at approximately 11 a.m. Friday morning on the 700 Block of West 14th Street in Junction City.
In a release, officials said officers made contact with a silver 2006 Chevrolet Malibu with multiple occupants when one occupant exited the vehicle holding a handgun. He fled and was pursued by Geary County Sheriff’s Deputies. During the chase, the suspect’s gun fired and struck the suspect in the chest. No shots were fired by officers.
The suspect was transported to an unnamed hospital with life-threatening injuries. His name was not released.
The 2006 Malibu has been found along with all persons of interest.
The 700 Block of West 14th Street has been re-opened for public use.

One person, who authorities will not identify at this time, has sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of a gunshot and has been transported to an unnamed hospital for treatment. In relation to the shooting incident, the Geary County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a silver 2006 Chevrolet Malibu with Kansas registration 037 KYE.
The occupants of the vehicle and their descriptions are unknown, but are all considered to be persons of interest in the investigation.
