A man walked into the Jewell County Law Enforcement Center and then shot and critically wounded two deputies Tuesday morning, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The suspect, Jason Lee Whitson, then fled on foot from the scene.
Kansas Bureau of Investigations officials said Whitson was found 60 miles from the scene in Minneapolis, Kansas with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital.
As result of the shooting, Rock Hills Schools district went into lockdown. The lockdown was lifted around 9:30 a.m.
