Officials from the Kansas Attorney General’s Office this week honored nearly two dozen sexual assault survivors from Riley County for their service to crime victims.

“The award winners have demonstrated extraordinary acts of service in helping crime victims navigate really challenging circumstances,” Attorney General Kris Kobach said. “Providing justice to crime victims is more than prosecuting the offenders. Justice includes listening when others turn away, acting when intervention is critical, and advocating for those who feel they have no voice.”

The survivors, known as the “19-plus” received the Community Champion Victim Service Award at the 28th annual Kansas Crime Victims’ Rights Conference, held in Wichita. The group advocated for a change in law following the August 2025 conviction of former Manhattan chiropractor Clark Petersen on 51 counts of sex crimes against patients.

City commissioners on Tuesday will vote on eliminating the Aggieville Parking Garage’s hourly and daily parking rates, ParkMobile registration and nose-in parking requirements, leaving only a 48-hour parking limit.

These proposed changes are in response to construction planned on Moro Street in Aggieville. Construction is anticipated to start in 2027. City officials anticipate the registration and daily rate changes would be temporary until Moro construction completes in 2027 or 2028.

Two Topeka men were arrested Thursday following a series of burglaries at a Manhattan residence, according to the Riley County Police Department.

Officers filed reports on April 12, April 14 and April 16 in the 1200 block of Tabor Valley Road after a 67-year-old man reported that unknown suspects broke into his home on three separate occasions and stole various items, including a safe and its contents. The total estimated loss has not yet been determined.

Thomas William Wallace Mundy, 30, of Topeka, and McKinley Glen Hopkins, 34, of Topeka, were both arrested at approximately 3:29 p.m. April 16 at the residence. Each was charged with burglary: dwelling to steal a firearm.

Both Mundy and Hopkins were issued total bonds of $15,000 and remain confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.

Police are investigating an aggravated assault reported late Wednesday night in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department.

Officers filed a report at approximately 10:19 p.m. April 15th, 2026, in the 1200 block of Bertrand Street. A 21-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman were listed as victims after it was reported a known 21-year-old man pulled a gun on them.

No arrests had been reported as of the time of the report.

Police are investigating a reported burglary at an apartment in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department.

Officers filed a report at approximately 8:57 a.m. April 15th in the 700 block of Osage Street. Seymour Properties was listed as the victim after it was reported that two known male suspects, ages 25 and 24, unlawfully entered an apartment and removed a variety of items.

The total estimated loss associated with the case is $2,500.

A local woman and the executive director of The Crisis Center, Inc. was recognized Tuesday by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center for her work to end sexual violence. Kathy Ray was selected as the recipient of the visionary voice award for the state of Kansas.

The NSVRC offers the visionary voice awards, in conjunction with sexual assault awareness month each April, to recognize the creativity and hard work of individuals around the country who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, innovation and commitment to end sexual violence.

Manhattan High School athletes are receiving a significant upgrade to their uniforms next year thanks to a new five-year athletic apparel agreement with Adidas.

USD 383 school board members voted 7-0 Wednesday to approve the contract, which provides uniforms, practice gear and sideline apparel for Manhattan High School varsity athletics. The contract provides exclusive rights at MHS for varsity sports covered under the Adidas brand. In exchange, Adidas will use the MHS name and trademarks in marketing.

District officials say the deal will cover most, if not all, uniform and equipment expenses that are typically funded through school budgets and fundraising efforts.

City commissioners on Tuesday responded to Riley County’s decision to indefinitely cut involvement in joint meetings between Manhattan, Riley County and Pottawatomie County commissions — a move Mayor Susan Adamchak said underscores the county’s “cold shoulder” to city input.

“It has been an issue for the two years that I’ve been on the commission, that Riley County commissioners, in my opinion, have been rather distant and almost antagonistic, very disinterested,” Adamchak said. “We are part of Riley County, and I feel as if Riley County is now shaped like a donut that moves around Manhattan, and that we are not part of the discussion on topics that do impact the residents of this community.”

Police are investigating a reported vehicle theft involving a motorcycle in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department.

Officers filed a report at approximately 8:14 a.m. April 14th in the 1500 block of Waterford Place. A 21-year-old man reported that an unknown suspect stole his red 2022 Honda Navi motorcycle.

The estimated loss associated with the case is $3,000.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact RCPD or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted anonymously and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

A Wamego man was arrested Tuesday afternoon at the Riley County Law Enforcement Center on multiple warrants, according to authorities.

Nathaniel Avery Busby, 32, was taken into custody at approximately 3:10 p.m. April 14th in the 1000 block of South Seth Child Road. He was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear, two counts of violating a protection order and a Manhattan Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear.

The warrants stem from original charges that include domestic battery, criminal damage to property and cruelty to animals.

Busby was issued a total bond of $13,500 and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.
