<p>&#x201C;The award winners have demonstrated extraordinary acts of service in helping crime victims navigate really challenging circumstances,&#x201D; Attorney General Kris Kobach said. &#x201C;Providing justice to crime victims is more than prosecuting the offenders. Justice includes listening when others turn away, acting when intervention is critical, and advocating for those who feel they have no voice.&#x201D;</p>

<p>The survivors, known as the &#x201C;19-plus&#x201D; received the Community Champion Victim Service Award at the 28th annual Kansas Crime Victims&#x2019; Rights Conference, held in Wichita. The group advocated for a change in law following the August 2025 conviction of former Manhattan chiropractor Clark Petersen on 51 counts of sex crimes against patients.</p>

<p>These proposed changes are in response to construction planned on Moro Street in Aggieville. Construction is anticipated to start in 2027. City officials anticipate the registration and daily rate changes would be temporary until Moro construction completes in 2027 or 2028.</p>

<p>Commissioners will also consider entering into a $44,918 contract for construction of a new sanitary sewer system for the Stadel and Johnson Road Sanitary Sewer Improvements within the Konza Sewer District, located in Riley County along the K-177/Pillsbury Drive corridor south of the Kansas River.</p>

<p data-start="218" data-end="531">Officers filed reports on April 12, April 14 and April 16 in the 1200 block of Tabor Valley Road after a 67-year-old man reported that unknown suspects broke into his home on three separate occasions and stole various items, including a safe and its contents. The total estimated loss has not yet been determined.</p>
<p data-start="533" data-end="757">Thomas William Wallace Mundy, 30, of Topeka, and McKinley Glen Hopkins, 34, of Topeka, were both arrested at approximately 3:29 p.m. April 16 at the residence. Each was charged with burglary: dwelling to steal a firearm.</p>
<p data-start="759" data-end="889" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Both Mundy and Hopkins were issued total bonds of $15,000 and remain confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.</p>

<p>USD 383 school board members voted 7-0 Wednesday to approve the contract, which provides uniforms, practice gear and sideline apparel for Manhattan High School varsity athletics. The contract provides exclusive rights at MHS for varsity sports covered under the Adidas brand. In exchange, Adidas will use the MHS name and trademarks in marketing.</p>
<p>District officials say the deal will cover most, if not all, uniform and equipment expenses that are typically funded through school budgets and fundraising efforts.</p>

<p>&#x201C;It has been an issue for the two years that I&#8217;ve been on the commission, that Riley County commissioners, in my opinion, have been rather distant and almost antagonistic, very disinterested,&#x201D; Adamchak said. &#x201C;We are part of Riley County, and I feel as if Riley County is now shaped like a donut that moves around Manhattan, and that we are not part of the discussion on topics that do impact the residents of this community.&#x201D;</p>

<p>The Riley County Commission unanimously agreed April 9 to send a letter to the city indicating they do not find value in the monthly city/county/county meetings. The Riley County commissioners chose to cancel the Thursday joint meeting they were scheduled to host.</p>

<p data-start="208" data-end="580">Nathaniel Avery Busby, 32, was taken into custody at approximately 3:10 p.m. April 14th in the 1000 block of South Seth Child Road. He was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear, two counts of violating a protection order and a Manhattan Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear.</p>
<p data-start="582" data-end="704">The warrants stem from original charges that include domestic battery, criminal damage to property and cruelty to animals.</p>
<p data-start="706" data-end="820" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Busby was issued a total bond of $13,500 and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.</p>
