Routson sentenced in vehicular homicide case

By KMAN Staff on March 21, 2016 Local News, Manhattan, Riley County, Top Story

A Manhattan man was sentenced for three counts that will include prison time.

Ryan Routson, 33, was sentenced for an aggravated battery charge, vehicular homicide and drug charges by Judge David Stutzman in the Riley County District Courthouse Monday morning.

Routson will face 24 months of probation for aggravated battery and 12 months in the Riley County Jail, starting immediately, for vehicular homicide. He was also sentenced to 12 months in county jail for the drug charges, with are concurrent.

Routson failed to observe a stop sign at the intersection of Tuttle Creek Boulevard and Tuttle Terrace in May of 2014, colliding with a vehicle driven by a pregnant woman.

The woman was 22-weeks pregnant and the baby died as a result of the crash.

On Feb. 16, Routson pleaded no contest to the charges.

Had the case gone to trial, the state notified the court that it would have presented evidence that Routson was traveling at an excessive rate of speed and was in the possession of methamphetamine and a syringe upon his arrest.
