Manhattan City Commissioners have authorized steps to move forward in two feasibility studies.
Director of Parks and Recreation, Eddie Eastes presented to commissioners during Tuesday night’s commission meeting.
The authorization allows the Mayor and City Clerk to execute an agreement with Bruce McMillan Architects for a Parks and Recreation Facility Feasibility Study and a Douglass Park Southeast Neighborhood Recreation Center Feasibility Study.
The commission will be appointing members to a steering committee to work with architects on the studies, as their next step.
Providing recreational activities to city residents was trending at the meeting, with commissioners also discussing the development of a family fun center.
Commissioners approved the first reading of an ordinance to amend the Preliminary Development Plan for Lot 2, Heritage Square South, allowing work on the fun center to move forward.
According to a presentation by Assistant Director for Planning, Eric Cattell – the proposed entertainment center would include a laser tag area, multi-level indoor play space, arcade, party rooms, commercial kitchen and dining area, and business offices.
