Starting next fall students at Kansas State University will be paying more for housing and dining services. The Kansas Board of Regents approved the 2.1-percent increase at their December meeting in Topeka on Wednesday. In comparison, the University of Kansas is facing an increase nearly double that of K-State, with a 4.9-percent hike in their housing and dining service fees.
According to Cindy Bontrager, vice president for administration and finance at K-State, regents also approved several items on the university’s repair and rehabilitation list. Bontrager says the list includes items such as roof repairs and an electrical project. Bill Snyder Family Stadium was also approved to see some renovations during the off season. Bontrager says many of the renovations are part of the Phase IV plan at the stadium. These renovations will include updates to the asphalt paving around the field as well as the installation of a new limestone retaining wall. Regents also gave the go-ahead for Phase V construction plans, which includes aesthetic improvements and additions to the East Stadium. This project, totaling $4,655,000, is financed from K-State Athletics funds.
K-State’s concealed carry policy is also one step closer to completion. Bontrager says the university will have to approach the governance committee again in order to get approval on areas where weapons will be prohibited on campus. These areas will include research labs as well as the nuclear reactor, which adheres to federal law.
The Purebred Beef Unit will also see a budget increase of nearly one-million dollars. The project will see funding increase to six-million dollars in order to accommodate relocation for the project which has lost some space due to NBAF construction.
