A Manhattan woman who lost her life after a fatal collision Saturday afternoon has been identified.
The Riley County Police Department named Gayla Fief, 53, as the deceased Sunday.
Officers with the RCPD were dispatched to the intersection of Seth Child Road and Tuttle Creek Boulevard Saturday at approximately 12:13 p.m. for a report of an injury accident involving two vehicles.
When officers arrived on scene, they found that a blue 2009 Toyota Camry, driven by Fief, had been struck by a black 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Romelia Sutton, 52, of Marysville. Fief was entrapped in her vehicle, and was extracted by the Manhattan Fire Department before being transported by Lifestar to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. Fief ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Fief’s next of kin has been notified.
Both Sutton and her passenger, Jazmin Vera-Galvan, 39, also of Marysville, were transported by EMS to Via Christi for treatment of their injuries.
During the course of the accident investigation, it was determined that Fief pulled out in front of Sutton, who did not have time to avoid a collision.
Officers were assisted by Riley County Rural Fire, Manhattan Fire Department, and Riley County EMS.
“On behalf of all of the responding agencies, we extend our condolences to the family and friends of those affected by this collision,” the RCPD said in Sunday’s press release.
