The Riley County Police Department officer who was shot when responding to a domestic disturbance Friday in Manhattan has been treated and released from the hospital, according to a statement released by the RCPD Monday morning.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Friday, Sergeant Pat Tiede was shot after responding to the report of a domestic situation in the 3700 block of Hawthorne Woods Circle. Sergeant Tiede received a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He is currently continuing his recovery at home.

Sergeant Tiede is an 18-year veteran of the department, presently serving in the Patrol Division.

“He and his family would like to thank the community for the outpouring of support and concern that has been shown during this time,” the RCPD said. “We ask that you please respect the privacy of Sgt. Tiede and his family as they continue to heal physically and emotionally.”

According to an arrest report by the RCPD, 38-year-old Mark Harrison was taken into custody after surrendering to authorities after two hours.

Monday morning, the RCPD updated Harrison’s charges, making it two counts for attempted capitol murder of a law enforcement officer and his bond is now set at $4 million.

The RCPD has asked the KBI to lead the investigation into the shooting of the officer and the discharge of the firearm during the barricade incident. The Riley County Police Department Crime Scene Investigations unit will process the crime scene.

Harrison is a research associate at Kansas State University with the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering.
