Riley County Law Board members Monday approved extension of the agreement with RCPD Director Brad Schoen, with a salary, compensation, and benefits raised to $141,343.46 compared to the previous 136,695.80, which is a 3.4 percent increase. The action was taken after several executive sessions lasting nearly an hour and a half.
Also during Monday’s Law Board meeting, board members were told there might be a slight delay in initiating a new mental health co-responder with Riley County Police, with a delay in finding a person to fill the position. Director Schoen indicated Pawnee Mental Health is looking for someone with the right fit for the position but were delayed when the one person they were interested in withdrew.
The board also discussed the possible changing of the meeting time for their meetings from noon to evening hours. Board member Wynn Butler has asked for the change for several years and fellow board member Usha Reddi agreed, saying she’s asked 10 people if they would be interested in serving on the Law Board but who couldn’t at that time of day. Outgoing board member Craig Beardsley also seemed supportive of the change. The group decided to reconsider at their January 17th meeting after having more information about the availability of the City Commission room as a meeting place at other times and days.
They also received updates on KPERs rates increasing in January of 2019 and were told vehicle purchases were made as previously specified before the end of the year, with two additional vehicles just purchased, bringing the fleet to 58.
