On Friday, October 28, a resurfacing project will begin on a nearly eight-mile stretch of K-177 from I-70 interchange in Geary County to Zeandale Road in Riley County. Project work includes a two-inch asphalt mill and overlay of existing pavement followed by all new pavement markings. The shoulders will receive a mastic surface asphalt treatment. Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work (excluding Kansas State University home football game days).
Beginning on Friday, October 28 at 9 a.m., northbound then southbound K-177 will be reduced to ONE OPEN LANE, one direction at a time, in several mile increments throughout the project duration. First, one lane in one direction will be milled and overlaid and reopened to traffic, and then the adjacent lane will be completed in the same manner. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via cones, signage and arrow boards.
Drivers should expect minor delays during peak commute times. There will be an 11-foot 6-inch lane width restriction and a reduced work zone speed limit of 60 mph, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration.The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, take it slow, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.
Schilling Construction, Co. (Manhattan, KS) is the primary contractor on this resurfacing project with a total contract cost of $2.176 million. Project work is scheduled to be completed in early December 2016, weather permitting.
