Snowy roads coat the Manhattan area

Riley County Police list seven accidents on their morning incident report, with one involving an injury shortly before 8:30 p.m. at East Riley Avenue and Skyway Drive.  The Emergency Accident Reporting Phase is in effect for Riley County and Manhattan until further notice. Please report only injury or serious vehicle collisions until winter weather clears up. In all minor accidents, drivers should exchange information and determine a time at a later date to report the accident to police.

DUE TO HAZARDOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS THE FOLLOWING AREAS NEED TO BE AVOIDED: CLAFLIN AT WESTLOOP, N MANHATTAN AT BAKER’S WAY, KIMBALL AT N MANHATTAN, AND KIMBALL AT TUTTLE CREEK BLVD. STAY OFF THE ROADS,.ESPECIALLY HILLS, UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY AND WHEN OUT DRIVE WITH EXTREME CAUTION.

*UPDATE 10:08 A.M.* CLAFLIN AT WESTLOOP IS NOW OPEN IN ALL DIRECTIONS, PLEASE CONTINUE TO AVOID N MANHATTAN AT BAKER’S WAY, KIMBALL AT N MANHATTAN, AND KIMBALL AT TUTTLE CREEK BLVD. PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROADS, ESPECIALLY HILLS, UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY AND DRIVE WITH EXTREME CAUTION.

The Geary County Sheriff’s and Junction City Police Departments have also announced emergency snow conditions and accident reporting. Motorists are urged to report only injury or serious vehicle collisions, involving road closure or blockage, until winter weather clears up. In all minor accidents drivers should exchange information and determine a time at a later date to report the accident to the Sheriff’s Department. However, any alcohol related accidents should be reported to the Sheriff’s Department immediately.

The Junction City Police Department specifically indicates they will not respond to non-injury accidents under $1,000 damage. Drivers should move to a place of safety and then exchange insurance information and report the accident to the insurance company as soon as possible. All injury accidents and accidents that block a street should be reported to police.
