A Manhattan man was sentenced to 18 years in the Department of Corrections for failing to provide complete information when he submitted to the Kansas Offender Registration Act.
Jase Stanton, 29, was in the Riley County District Courthouse Monday afternoon. He was also scheduled to be sentenced for aggravated criminal sodomy. In June 2015, Riley County police officers said two victims, a 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, were involved in unwanted sexual activity with a man they had met at a Manhattan bar who invited them to his house where it was promised there would be women. The men, who identified as Fort Riley soldiers, passed out after consuming part of a mixed drink made by that man, who the court identified as Stanton.
Chief Judge Meryl Wilson continued Stanton’s sentencing for those charges to April 3 at 3:30 p.m.
This is the second sexual offense of this kind for Stanton, who was convicted in Kansas City in 2010 for aggravated criminal sodomy and sexual battery. Stanton resigned from his position as a field coordinator with Todd Tiahrt’s U.S. Senate campaign when those charges were made in 2009 for an incident that happened in 2008.
Stanton was later convicted of the crimes, faced probation and was required to register as a sex offender, but failed to include two email addresses he was found to use for social media accounts.
