The Hut to close after this weekend

0
By KMAN Staff on November 28, 2017 Local News, Manhattan

Updated Wednesday morning:

After almost a year since its reopening, The Hut: Bayou Bar & Grille (formerly known as Hibachi Hut) on Poyntz Ave is closing its doors this Saturday evening.

Bud and Bobby Cox and business partner Dave Dreiling would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the loyal Hut guests for coming with them on this journey in downtown Manhattan. “We gave it our best shot,” said Bud Cox, owner. “We hoped that bringing back some of the Cajun and Creole recipes from the original Hibachi Hut in Aggieville would help bring The Hut back to its former glory—but it just wasn’t enough.”

The Hut will remain open in downtown Manhattan through Saturday, December 2nd. “We plan to bring some of the traditional Cajun and Creole recipes that were most popular at our beloved Hut over to our other local restaurants for guests to continue to enjoy,” said Cox.

Opened by John and Margaret Anderson in 1965, the Hibachi Hut tradition has been a local favorite for more than 50 years. The Hut was originally known for its hibachi-grilled hamburgers. In the late 1980s, Bud and Bobby Cox began adding the classic Cajun and Creole recipes and flavors that The Hut is known for today. Ward and Brenda Morgan reopened Hibachi Hut in 2014 on Poyntz Avenue—where Dreiling and the Cox Brothers worked to continue the tradition in 2017.

(Earlier report)

The Hut: Bayou Bar and Grille announced on Twitter Tuesday afternoon it will be closing its doors this weekend.

The longtime Manhattan restaurant, formally known as Hibachi Hut since it first opened in Aggieville in 1965, moved to downtown on Poyntz Avenue under new ownership in 2014.

It closed again momentarily in 2016 before it reopened as The Hut under another change of hands this summer.

To our loyal Hut guests… it’s with a heavy heart that we inform you that we’ll be closing our doors on Saturday night. We would like to genuinely thank all of you for coming with us on this journey in downtown Manhattan. pic.twitter.com/D30ghDQ2D1
