Hazardous Travel Conditions Expected during the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend!** Moderate to heavy rain is expected through much of Thanksgiving Day, with rainfall accumulations upwards of 1-2” likely. However, as a strong cold front moves through the area today, temperatures will quickly plunge to around or below the freezing mark from northwest to southeast. As a result, this rain will gradually transition to a mix of rain, freezing rain, and sleet from this afternoon through Friday morning. Freezing rain, sleet, and even some light snow (far northern KS only) will be possible Friday and Friday night, with ongoing chances for periods of mixed wintry precipitation through the holiday weekend. Ice accumulations are expected with this system, with amounts upwards of at least 0.25” possible (some locations may receive higher ice accumulations). Bridges and overpasses will be the first to experience icy conditions, with other slick spots possible on the roadways through the weekend. As a result, hazardous travel conditions are possible, so plan accordingly and take it slow if you plan on driving through this holiday period!
