TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The attorney for a woman accused of killing a Topeka couple in 2002 is asking a judge to allow him to hire a private investigator.
Attorney Mark Bennett says the private investigator is needed to pursue new leads in the shooting deaths of 53-year-old Karen Harkness and 47-year-old Michael Sisco. They were found dead in July 2002 in Harkness’ Topeka apartment.
Sisco’s ex-wife, Dana Chandler, was charged in their deaths in July 2011.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that Bennett says in a court document that he wants a state fund to pay for an investigator. He says the defense has found another suspect in the case but did not elaborate.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Dec. 12.
