WICHITA, Kan. (AP) The state of Kansas is opposing Dodge City clinic’s request for a federal court injunction forcing the state to restore its federal family planning funds. The state says the order would be an “affront” to its sovereignty.
The arguments came in documents filed Thursday in a lawsuit by Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri over a new state law that stripped its federal funds for family planning. The unaffiliated Dodge City Family Planning Clinic joined the lawsuit this week, saying it lost its funding as “collateral damage” to a law targeting Planned Parenthood.
The state asked the judge to require the clinic to post a $100,000 bond if he decides to grant the injunction.
Kansas argued low-income patients can find other reproductive health care services in or near Ford County.
