WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A new report says Kansas farmers saw no measurable rain last week in what was the driest week of the year so far.
Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service said in its weekly update Monday that the dry conditions allowed farmers to harvest their row crops. Corn harvest is 53 percent done, while 16 percent of the soybeans have now been cut. Sunflower growers have brought in 9 percent of the crop, and the sorghum harvest is 5 percent complete.
Wheat growers have now seeded 23 percent of their 2012 crop. Northwest Kansas is leading the state with 75 percent of winter wheat in that region now planted.
