FORT RILEY, Kan. – A Fort Riley Soldier has died due to injuries sustained from a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan.
Sgt. David Sharp, 28, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was on dismounted patrol in Pa’in Kelay when he encountered an improvised explosive device. He later died of his wounds in Landstuhl, Germany.
Sharp was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, currently deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Sharp joined the Army in October 2002 as an armored crewmember. He arrived at Fort Riley in April 2006. This was his third deployment. His awards include the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and the Combat Action Badge.
Sharp is survived by his parents and two children.
