LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell will give the annual Dole Lecture in April.
The Dole Institute of Politics announced in a news released Monday that Mitchell will give the address April 4 at the institute in Lawrence.
Mitchell was a U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace from January 2009 to May 2011.
Before that, he served in the U.S. Senate from 1980 to 1995. He was Senate majority leader from 1989 to 1995.
In 2000 and 2001, he was chairman of an international committee on violence in the Middle East. And in 2006 and 2007, Mitchell led the investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs in professional baseball.
And he led the American Red Cross Liberty Fund, which provided relief for Sept. 11 attack victims.
