    Hearing to Discuss Fate of Manhattan Teenager Charged with Dowling Murder

    The two-day hearing for Cole Drake, who was charged with aggravated burglary and the first degree murder of 14 year old  Tyler Dowling in April of 2011, is to determine whether Drake should be charged as a juvenile or an adult.

    Numerous witnesses were called to the stand throughout the day, including various detectives, officers and classmates.

    Classmates of Dowling and Drake helped to provide information about conversations they had with the boys.  Lola Oppy, 16, gave details regarding a conversation she had with Dowling over text message the day of the murder.  Oppy informed the court that she received and replied to text messages with Dowling between 4:00 – 11:52 p.m. on April 12.

    Other classmates were questioned about conversations they had with Drake prior to the incident, as well as the day after.  Many were aware of the fact that he had a gun.

    The hearing will resume Friday at 9:00 a.m.
