FORT SCOTT, Kan. (AP) Heavy rain across southeast Kansas and sections of Missouri has sparked flash flooding, forcing the closure of area bridges and one rural roadway.
The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for several counties in southeast Kansas and western Missouri early Tuesday after up to 3 inches of rain hit the area. More rain was forecast for Tuesday.
The weather service said flooding was reported in low-lying areas, including along the Marmaton River in Fort Scott, Kan. The weather service said the river was expected to drop Thursday when the rain subsides.
Fort Scott police said a couple bridges in Bourbon County, Kan., were closed because of high water. The Missouri Department of Transportation also said a section of Missouri 23 in Johnson County was closed because of flooding.
