A Manhattan man is behind bars, charged with the rape of a female acquaintence.

As KMAN News first reported Monday, William Ellis, 27, was arrested Friday morning around 6 a.m. after the Riley County Police Department received a 911 call from a female in her 20s reporting she was the victim of a rape in the North Central portion of Manhattan.

When officers arrived the suspect had already vacated the area, though they did catch up to him a little while later and arrested Ellis on one count of rape.

He is still confined as of Monday morning on a $50,000 bond.
