Report links to K-State’s Martin to South Carolina vacancy

In what’s become a yearly ritual, largely due to the success of K-State basketball under coach Frank Martin, a report has surfaced linking him to another job.  Gamecock Central.com, the Rivals.com site covering South Carolina, reported Tuesday that Martin had “heavy interest” in the Gamecocks’ vacant head coaching position.  But, CBS Sports.com’s Jeff Goodman reported that according to multiple sources, there has been no contact between South Carolina and Martin, who’s reportedly been out recruiting the last two days.  Gamecock Central.com reported later Tuesday, that calls to Martin and K-State were not returned.

Another candidate for the South Carolina job is Palmetto State native Gregg Marshall of Wichita State, who CBSSports.com also says has not been contacted.  Harvard coach Tommy Amaker has also been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Gamecocks’ job.

South Carolina fired Darrin Horn after four seasons, his last with a 10-21 overall record and a 2-14 mark in the SEC.  Meanwhile, K-State made their third straight NCAA tournament appearance.
