Eight different players scored, but rebounding and defense were the key for Rock Creek in a 49-41 victory over Moundridge in the 3A state tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday night at Hutchinson.  Mustang junior post Jacob Miller broke his own school record with 17 rebounds to go with his nine points, as Rock Creek outrebounded the Wildcats 37-30.  Wildcat senior guard Trey Unrau came into the game averaging 26.7 points, but sprained an ankle early in the first quarter and was locked down by Mustang guard Logan Miner.  Unrau was held to 15 points on 22 shot attempts from the field.

Rock Creek (20-4) led 29-25 at halftime and built the lead to nine midway thru the third quarter.  Moundridge (20-4) pulled to within 40-38 with just under four minutes to play on an Unrau three pointer.  The Mustangs would hit a free throw, and then Aaron Kuecker hit a layup to put Rock Creek up five, who then knocked down their free throws to preserve the win.  Kuecker led the Mustangs with 11 points, while Dillon Johnston added 10 points.

Rock Creek boys basketball will play in the 3A state tournament semifinals on Friday night at 8:15 pm at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.  Coverage on our sister station, Hot Country B104.7 will begin at eight o’ clock.
