    Santorum wins Kansas GOP Caucuses, sweeps Tri-County area

    Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum was the winner of the Kansas GOP Caucuses on Saturday and was also the winner in the counties around Manhattan.

    Statewide,  Santorum gained 51 percent of the vote easily outdistancing former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney who had 21 percent of the vote.  Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich garnered 14 percent while Texas Congressman Ron Paul took 13 percent.

    In Riley County, Santorum received 276 votes to Romney’s 200.  Ginrich recieved 133 votes and Paul got 100.  In Geary County caucusing the race was a little tighter with Santorum receiving 64 votes, Romney 45, Gingrich 39 and Paul 18.  Santorum cleaned up in Pottawatomie County with a whopping 282 votes, Paul was second with 121, Gingrich received 52 votes and Romney was last with 44 votes.

    With the victory, Santorum picks up most of the state’s 40 delegates to this summer’s Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.
