Two Manhattan men were charged for their roles in the Wendy’s armed robbery reported Tuesday.

Riley County Police say thanks to the immediate calls from Wendy with good descriptions, the dispatchers were able to get information to RCPD quickly. After receiving the information, officers were able to make it to the area before the suspects had fled the scene.

The first suspect exited the back door of Wendy’s going Northbound. After the suspect got in the get away vehicle, the officers saw the vehicle leaving. Officers quickly caught up to the vehicle and attempted to get it to stop. As the chase quickly picked up speed, the vehicle turned off of Waters going west onto Claflin. When the vehicle finally turned onto the 2900 block of Dickins Avenue, the vehicle slowed down and one passenger exited. The passenger was wearing a black hoodie and dark pants. Even though the passenger ran off, the vehicle continued onward to the 1500 block of College Avenue where the driver finally gave up.

The getaway vehicle was a gray SUV driven by 23 year old Richard Lawrence. Lawrence was charged with four different charges including aggravated robbery, attempting to flee and elude, reckless driving and obstruction of the legal process. Also arrested was 28 year old Gilbert Blizzard for obstruction. Blizzard’s bond was set at $3,000 in connection with aiding in Lawrence’s escape.

RCPD reports they are still on the hunt for the thief but the money stolen was recovered. They are also continuing to investigate whether this robbery is related to the McDonald’s robbery.
