    Feelings Strong Over Passed Budget

kansastravel.orgThe state budget passed May 20th with a lot of hours put behind it to make it work. Many representatives and senators were happy with the budget.

“When we finally got out we did have a good budget and we are very pleased with it,” said Richard Carlson, State Representative.

Tom Phillips, State Representative, was also happy with the progress made especially when it came to what money went to which organization.

“We were able to give money back to the schools without taking from the state highway fund, which was important to me. We were able to fund some of the salaries that needed to be upgraded. So, overall, I think the budget was a good product,” he said.

Most of the ones who were involved did agree that the session was filled with high emotions.

“Well it was very contentious, which I think everyone knows,” said Roger Reitz, State Senator. “We started with the idea that we would be very efficient in our ideas but it quickly became UN-efficient.”

The main stalemate for the budget was the issue of redistricting, which hit around the same time during that session.
